Since the launch of the SASSA grant payment, 26 million people are currently beneficiary of it every month and it is growing daily, however, with the rumored ANC coalition with the DA ( Democratic Alliance) after the May 29th, 2024 general election, the days of getting these grants may be numbered.

7 Ways And Methods To Get Your SASSA Payment

The following are the proven ways, kindly read them one by one:

1. Mobile Money Bank Transfer

Nearly all banks in South Africa offer mobile money bank transfers. This process simply means dialing a USSD code from your mobile phone number and getting a PIN and digit number that you can use to withdraw cash from an ATM or any retail shop.

While this method of using the mobile money bank transfer to collect your SASSA money grant payment is easy and preferred, the following must be known and done:

  • You need to have a South African bank account that is in your name. This must be the same as your name on the SASSA database register. In case, you have changed your bank and want to update it, you can read this guideline on steps to change your SASSA banking details.
  • Mukuru and some lesser-known vague banks are not recognized, only Capitec, Absa, FNB, and FNB are duly recognized.
  • Because you will dial the USSD code from your phone number, this phone number must be the same one you used for your SASSA registration and also the same for your bank account.
  • Depending on the bank you are using, you may need to activate the mobile money banking access on your mobile phone before using it.

2. Post Office branches ( Including Post banks/Sapo)

This is the most popular option to get your SASSA payment. This option is extremely good if you do not have your bank account, want to collect cash, and also if you do not have a SASSA card.

This is how it works, allow me to explain!

  • Go to any Post office branch, tender your valid ID document and SASSA card ( optional) and you will be given your cash.
  • If you do not have a SASSA card, from the post office, you can apply for post bank ATM card, follow the instructions and you will be given a post bank ATM card that will be linked to your SASSA grants and you can use it to collect cash at any post bank or even any other bank ATM in South Africa.

The rate at which the post bank card is gaining traction and popularity for collecting SASSA payments is highly encouraging and if you are in the situation of not having the usual bank account, just go to any post office and request for their ATM bank card.

The only downside or disadvantage I see with the post office is that lots of beneficiaries prefer this and you may spend lots of hours in the queue, but if you have your post bank ATM card, no need for such a queue.

3. Boxer Stores

It still baffles and surprises me that many people do not yet know they can collect their SASSA money grant payment from any boxer shop nationwide.

It is an easy, stress-free, and seamless approach, compared to the other two options I mentioned above.

Follow the guidelines below to be able to collect your cash from Boxer:

  • Go to any boxer store with your phone and valid ID.
  • Now, when you approach the cashier, tell him or her you want to collect your SASSA money, the person at the till will ask for your phone number and she will press it on the computer and an SMS will be sent to that number.
  • However, if that number is not registered on the SASSA website i.e. not the one you used to register, an error will show and you will not be able to get any SMS.

Should in case you lose your number or your phone got lost, I highly recommend you try and get the number back before going to Boxer.

4. Pick N Pay stores

Just walk to any pick-n-pay store, tender your SASSA card and South African Identity card or asylum and you will be able to collect your SASSA money.

However, there is a quick catch you need to do first, you need to choose this option when applying or updating your details on the SASSA website.

Please note that not all Pick N Pay stores offer this option, just a few designated ones do!! Once you are approved to collect your cash from Pick n Pay stores, an automatic SMS will be generated and sent to your registered mobile phone number. This, along with your ID as stated above is all you need to cash out your money.

5. Leveraging on Cash Send

Most people are familiar with Capitec cash send, however, do you know that this same concept can be used in collecting your SASSA grant money payment?

Yes, it is true and I am going to show you the steps to take in using this method!!

This option of selecting cash send makes it possible for you to withdraw and get your SASSA cash from either Pick n Pay, Boxer, or SA Post offices. However, the biggest good news is that you do not even need a bank account, so people without a bank account can use and leverage this.

Kindly follow the steps below to use Cash Send in collecting your SASSA payment grants:

  • Choose and select cash send as your preferred payment method when applying or registering for SASSA.
  • If you have already registered, all you need to do is update your details and choose the Cash Send option, you can check above where I gave the link on how you can update your banking details.
  • Once you do this successfully, at the date of payment collection, you will automatically receive an SMS containing the cash send code you will need to collect your money at these retailers.

However, you need to remember that your phone number should always be on and it should not change from the one that is on record.

6. Using your Own Bank Account

While this is the best option, both to avoid fraud and long queues, however, majority of SASSA grant beneficiaries do not have their bank account.

However, if you fall within the 10 percent that owns their bank account, then you can implement this method to collect your SASSA payment.

This is how to collect your money directly into your bank account:

  • From the beginning of your application and registration, select your bank as the preferred payment option.
  • However, if things have changed, you can go back to the SASSA website and update it with your banking details so that payment can henceforth be going there. Kindly scroll above to see my guidelines on this.
  • At the appropriate payment time and date, your money will automatically be paid to your bank account.

Conclusion

In conclusion, these guideline elucidates with thorough explanations the six ways you can use to collect your SASSA grant payment.

For me, I prefer the use of the USSD code using the mobile money bank transfer and the use of my bank account. However, because the majority of the beneficiaries do not have a bank account, leveraging on the 5 other methods is surely a good and formidable option.
